Research Canada – An Alliance for Health Discovery

Research Canada is a not-for-profit, voluntary organization that is a strong national voice for health research advocacy in Canada. Research Canada's mission is to help Canadians maintain and improve their health by ensuring Canada is a world leader in health research. CCCHR recently joined Research Canada as a member; other members are drawn from all sectors dedicated to increasing investments in health research, including the leading health research institutes, national health charities, hospitals, regional health authorities, universities, private industry and others. Research Canada envisions Canada as a country recognized internationally for its innovation, responsive to the health needs of all Canadians and respected as an important contributor to Canada's competitiveness within the Group of G-8 countries.

Through CCCHR’s membership in Research Canada, CCCHR participates in articulating the value and importance of adequate research funding in Canada.

Canadian Child and Youth Health Coalition

Established in 2004, the Canadian Child & Youth Health Coalition (CCYHC) is a collaboration of ten major national organizational and program members working together with a common vision to advance the cause of child and youth health and health care in Canada. The CCCHR is proud to be a founding member of the Coalition. By partnering with other Coalition members, the CCCHR ensures that collaborative strategies are developed to link research to clinical care, to health promotion strategies, family needs, and helps guide policy and practice changes.

The Coalition’s mandate provides a powerful framework for the stimulation of new knowledge development, the promotion of knowledge uptake/application to practice and policy, the support of training and education initiatives, and the strengthening of national advocacy. The following organizations/programs are currently members of the Coalition:

Maternal, Infant, Child and Youth Research Network (MICYRN)

The Maternal, Infant, Child and Youth Research Network (MICYRN) is a multi-disciplinary initiative to support world-class clinical research nationwide. The Network was established in 2006 through the efforts of CCCHR members, and is an important initiative to better coordinate child health related clinical research infrastructure and projects at a national level. MICYRN’s vision is that the synergistic strength gained from a formal collaborative network of leading researchers and integrated infrastructure will spur tremendous advances that are unattainable by individual groups. Research partners consist of established and emerging clinical teams, research networks and groups committed to integrating resources to maximize returns.

MICYRN’s goal complements those of CCCHR in that they aim to build Canada’s maternal, infant and child health clinical researchers into one community, dedicated to improving the health of Canadian mothers and children.

Canadian Child Health Clinician Scientist Program (CCHCSP)

The Canadian Child Health Clinician Scientist Program (CCHCSP) provides support for highly qualified child health clinician candidates to develop their requisite knowledge and skills for a career as an independent scientist in child health research. Trainees engage in research training and a core curriculum in one of the participating CCHCSP’s Child Health Research Training Centres, all of whom are members of CCCHR.

The member institutes of the CCCHR are key partners in the success of the CCHCSP, providing trainees, supervisors, facilities, resources and coordination of local CCHCSP centres. In turn, CCCHR member institutes benefit greatly from the program structure, curriculum, rigorous training standards, and support received through the CCHCSP. As well, the CCCHR benefits from the increased clinician-scientist capacity in Canada generated by the CCHCSP.
